Samsung New PC Studio is an impressive set of tools that are able to sync and manage numerous content on your device. Samsung New PC Studio can sync contacts, music and video. The application can update phone firmware, manage contacts, transfer files between phone and PC, synchronize phone data and backup phone data. Best mac parental monitoring software. MPEG4 video files are the format of choice for the YP-T9 and the unit ships with Samsung's Multimedia Software that transcodes the video on the computer before transferring to the T9 so files on the YP-T9 play at the optimal frame size/rate with minimal effort from the.

Bottom Line
Good-looking and tiny, the YP-T9J is a worthy adversary of the nano, especially for PC owners looking to get more bang for their buck. Nonetheless, it's not without some annoying flaws.
The Samsung YP-T9J is an attractive reminder to all PC owners that the Apple nano isn't the only pretty flash-memory player on the scene. With a $130 street price, the T9 is just a shade cheaper than the super-popular nano, and you also get video capabilities (though you shouldn't expect any fireworks in this department), a photo-storage and slide-show feature, and an FM tuner. That's not all: There's a voice recorder, too, text-document storage and viewing, and a couple of cheesy games that seem to require little skill but are nonetheless entertaining for a short while.
Shorter but thicker than a nano, the T9 comes equipped with a larger screen (1.8 inches, versus the nano's 1.5-inch one), and the background display features, alternately, an animated graphic EQ, something resembling a pumping subwoofer, and flying concentric circles. The face of the player is black with click buttons in an array similar to the familiar Apple iPod scroll wheel. Additional buttons on the silver-colored sides of the T9 control such functions as play/pause, backward, menu access, record/stop for the voice recorder, and a hold switch. All the buttons except the hold switch are located on the right-hand side. Because you can't necessarily see what you're pressing and look at the screen simultaneously, it can be frustrating to figure out which of the closely clustered buttons you need to press. Although they're labeled, they look nearly identical when you are looking at the display dead-on.

Of course, once you've memorized the buttons' functions, this is no longer a problem. Just don't expect the Menu button to take you backward, as it does on an iPod. You can also run into trouble trying to access the menu features while, say, looking at your list of albums (it won't let you—you have to press the Back button a few times to arrive at the main screen before you can press the Menu button). This type of navigation is mildly annoying, and when compared with the iPod's, the T9's interface seems pretty non-linear and clumsy.

The T9 plays MP3s and WMA files. Though it comes with Samsung Media Studio software, I wasn't thrilled with the software's layout. It's a moot point, however, since Samsung offers a few different ways to load your player when you first plug it into your computer's USB port. Rhapsody, Napster, and Windows Media Players are all viable tools for managing the T9.
While playing music, you can press the Menu button and make adjustments from the following options: Street Mode (which 'allows you to hear music more clearly outdoors,' according to the manual, but is basically a volume boost); DNSe (a selection of EQ and '3D surround-sound' settings); Play Mode (Normal plays all tracks in order once, Repeat repeats the current folder you are playing, Repeat One repeats one file, and we all know what Shuffle does); Music Background (where you can choose from the aforementioned concentric circles and animated EQ displays); Play Speed (which alters the speed and pitch of whatever's playing—a fun toy); and Skip Interval (which controls how far ahead the skip button jumps—from three seconds ahead to one full track).
When the EQ is off or set to my own subtle preferences, depending on the headphones I'm using, the T9 sounds just as it should. Audio is transparent, letting the music and the headphones take the credit. Unfortunately but typically, the supplied earphones are pretty lousy, though they are better than the ones that ship with most other players. Upgrading is a must for audiophiles. Listening through high-end headphones such as the Ultimate Ears UE10 Pros or the Grado GS1000 was a pure joy. I understand that these headphones are pricey, costing about $900 each, but more affordable models, such as some of the $100-to-$200 offerings from Etymotic, Shure, and Sennheiser, are all good options.
Personally, I hate all the '3D' and 'virtual surround' settings out there. I'd rather hear music the way it was intended to be heard by the mix engineer. Still, some of the player's settings, such as '3D Studio,' at least made the music sound different in an interesting way, though none came close to replicating surround sound.
Although the screen is sharp and a bit larger than the nano's, the video capabilities are unimpressive. The T9 usually messes with the aspect ratio of the videos you upload (even the Samsung commercial that comes preloaded on the player). As a result, everything looks long and skinny, as if in a Coney Island fun-house mirror. The ability to bookmark multiple spots in a program with the click of a button is useful, however, and works quite well. Still, the video capability seems like more of a reference tool than something you would use to watch even a half-hour sitcom.

The photo function, however, is simple and useful. You have the ability either to skip through your photos in full-screen mode or to see two thumbnails of upcoming images alongside a thumbnail and a larger image of the photo that is currently selected. I found that pictures translate much better than most videos, showing off the bright screen's crisp image quality. When a video or photo file is transferred via the included Media Studio software, it is automatically converted into a JPEG (for photos) or SVI (for videos).
The FM tuner also looks and sounds great, utilizing cool graphics to make FM radio feel like a truly modern experience. The voice recorder uses the mic located on the top of the player near the headphone jack and a recording button on the right-hand side of the player (which can also be used to record FM broadcasts). If you're just using it to record your voice or a quick interview, or to prove that your roommate snores loudly, this is a very easy-to-use and effective tool. If your intention is to record a night at the symphony or even your friend's embarrassing karaoke performance, however, you'll find it lacks the nuances necessary to record music.
Samsung says the T9 gets 30 hours of battery life off a full charge, but I clocked mine at about 21.5 hours. Mind you, that was not just straight playback—I pressed buttons and changed settings, just as you might do, which may explain the discrepancy. Included in the box were a USB connection cable, a pair of earphones, a Quick Start guide, and the software-installation disc (which contains the manual).
The million-dollar question is: Am I going to be sad to send the YP-T9J back to Samsung at the end of this review? Not terribly so, because I have a 30GB iPod that pretty much rocks. But to my friends out there with nanos, my advice is not even to look at the T9, because you might start crying. For $10 or so less, you get a lot more features, and some really cool looks. Thanks to Apple's streamlined user interface and tight integration with iTunes, however, the nano is still superior. Build macos app in xcode.
